Green Initiatives

Clumpies has made significant changes in our kitchen this year, as we are taking steps to make a green way forward!
Clumpies strives to better itself and its community. We will be updating this page regularly to show you our progress.

Here are a few places we're making those changes:

New Terra Composting
Starting in 2023, we've been partnering with New Terra Composting to divert all of our unwanted food scraps that would typically go to a landfill and take years and years to disintegrate, to now being composted! Composting is the process of taking unwanted organic matter and turning it into a nutrient dense soil.

New Terra offers a great program where we you can receive the finished compost or choose to donate it to partnered non-profits, schools, or community gardens. Our plan is to use the returned compost soil in designated gardens at Rock City!

As of, 4/24/23 we have already diverted 339 lbs.

RightCycle Program
We are proud to announce that we are now a part of the RightCycle Program! This Program turns hard-to-recycle personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, and turns them into pellets that are used to create consumer products such as patio furniture, flower pots and planters, and recycling bins.

This is a process we implemented in our kitchen in January of '23 and have more recently implemented in all 3 scoop shops and food truck! We're really excited to see how many pounds of gloves we're able to divert because as you can imagine, we go through quite a lot of gloves.

New Terra Composting

2,008 lbs diverted

This is the total weight they have collected from us so far.

1,991 miles offset

Our composting efforts are equivalent to not driving 1,317 miles.

90 gallons of gas

The number of gallons of gasoline offset by diverting food scraps from the landfill.

0.3 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled

We've saved 0.2 tons from sitting in a landfill.

RightCycle Program

  • We've sent off 522lbs of recyclable gloves so far!

  • Hand sanitizer has been provided for guests in all food service waitinng areas.

  • All partners will be required to wear masks when in a public indoor setting. When outdoors, fully vaccinated* partners have the option to be unmasked.

  • Signs have been posted in public and staff restrooms reminding everyone of the critical importance of proper handwashing.
  • All partners (employees) are self screening at home prior to each work shift. Partners who feel ill or experience any flu-like symptoms including fever, coughing, or sneezing have been instructed to stay home and are being asked to leave work if they exhibit these symptoms while onsite.

We recommend that everyone continue to follow best practices recommended by the CDC to ensure good health including the following:

  • Stay at home when you are sick.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating, and after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.
  • Hand sanitizers should contain at least 60% - 95% alcohol.

About

Multi-Colored Pops from Clumpies

Our History & Mission

Clumpies Ice Cream Co. has been handcrafting the best ice cream in Chattanooga since 1999. Opened by the son of a third generation candy maker, Clumpies has sought to create a product as amazing and one-of-a-kind as the city where it started. The business changed hands in 2013, but our mission is still the same: Serve every guest that walks through the doors incredible ice cream, and create unforgettable memories worth repeating.

Our Process

Each batch of Clumpies ice cream is made by hand with only the finest ingredients that can be found. From our ice cream mix that we pasteurize ourselves from fresh milk and cream to our house made cookies, cakes, chunks, jams and sauces that we swirl into our ice cream, we always strive to make the best ice cream around. We churn our ice cream in small batches, ten gallons or less at a time. That micro-batch process allows us to care for and consider each scoop of ice cream that we serve. The result is a rich, creamy, delicious ice cream crafted with care. It may take longer, but we think it makes our ice cream that much better.

Local Partners

We love to partner with like minded folks, committed to making products of the highest quality, in our hometown of Chattanooga and the surrounding area. Below are a few of those companies and producers that we work with: Chattanooga Whiskey, Fairmount Orchard, Lookout Lavender Farm, Piper & Leaf Tea, Sunnyland Farms, Walden Ridge Honey, Velo Coffee Roasters
